Two men remanded in custody over sex crimes

Libyan and Algerian nationals remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to violent rape, in separate proceedings.

Two men were remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges of rape, defilement and indecent assault.

Morad Damona, 30, of Libya and residing in Sliema was charged with violently raping a 24-year-old British woman, residing in Malta. The incident took place on 21 September. The man was also charged with holding the woman against her will and committing lewd and immoral acts.

In a separate hearing, 30-year-old Algerian national Shukri Mohammed Farag, also residing in Sliema, was charged with defiling an 18-year-old woman. At the time of the incident the woman was a minor. Farag, who is also known as 'Frans Shukri' was also charged with engaging in sexual acts with a minor, committing immoral and lewd acts and relapsing.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli remanded in custody the two accused. The court also issued a court ban on the names of the victims and ordered that the coming proceedings are heard in camera.

Inspectors Melvyn Camilleri, Josric Mifsud and Louise Calleja prosecuted. Both the accused were assisted by legal aid lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace.

Malta is no longer safe with these north African nationals, with their mentality about women, roaming the whole country at will. The Courts should give these two a major lesson and as in Sharia Law, which they are supposed to uphold, punishment is cutting that part of the body that has committed the crime, the same should be done to them. After all they have marked those two poor women for life. Why should they get any better treatment?
