Police make anti-depressant drug find at Mt Carmel

Boy found in possession of 56 anti-depressant drugs at Forensic Unit at Mount Carmel Hospital.

The home affairs ministry today said that the police found 56 seroqual pills on a 20 year old man who was visiting his father, who is detained at the Forensic Unit at Mount Carmel Hospital in Attard.

The medicine is a short-acting atypical antipsychotic approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and along with an antidepressant to treat major depressive disorder.

The ministry added that the find was made after it ordered a search in the Forensic Unit at the hospital, where vulnerable inmates are detained.

The search was ordered upon discovering that no regular searched are carried out in the unit, the ministry said.

Police investigations are underway and a magisterial inquiry was also opened.
