'It-Titu' imprisoned for two years nine months

Court imprisons Jesmond Cassar 'It-Titu' for two years nine months after his claims of breaching a probation order and absconding from custody due to sexual harassment were unheeded.

Jesmond Cassar, better known as 'it-Titu,' was imprisoned for two years nine months after being found guilty of breaching a probation order and absconded from custody on Thursday last week.
On Wednesday Cassar was arraigned in court over drug charges. He was granted bail on condition he received in-patient treatment at a ward adjacent to the Forensic Unit at Mount Carmel Hospital. The following day Cassar complained of stomach problems and was taken to Mater Dei Hospital. While waiting at the Emergency Department, Cassar ran away. He was apprehended on Racecourse Street, Marsa, at around 1:50 am by officers of the Rapid Intervention Unit.

Cassar was again arraigned on Friday charged with breaching a probation order and absconding from custody. However he claimed sexual harassment by his cell mate as the reason for his actions.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras handed Cassar two and a half years jail time for breaching a probation order and another three months for absconding custody while following a rehab programme.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
