Six months’ imprisonment over drug possession

Somali national imprisoned for six months and fined €500 after pleading guilty to being in possession of drugs while at Mount Carmel Hospital.

Mahad Mohamoud Ali, 28 of Somalia was handed a six month jail term and fined €500 after pleading guilty to being in possession of drugs while at Mount Carmel Hospital.

The Somali national, who has a Maltese identity card, admitted to the charges and told investigating officers the cannabis resin found in his possession was not for his personal use.

The court considered how the accused collaborated with the police and also his guilty plea at an early stage of the proceedings. The accused was handed a six month jail term and fined €500. The court ordered the prison term to be served at the Forensic Section at Mount Carmel Hospital.
