Police tipped off about suspected drug trafficking, search unsuccessful

Police and customs officials assisted by officers from the drug squad were this morning called in for an operation at the former Marsa Shipbuilding site on suspicion that a boat may have been carrying illegal substances.
The ship, Alice, berthed near Dock Seven and had just arrived from Libya. The operation started at around 5am, lasting several hours. The ship's crew is made up of Maltese and Egyptian nationals.
No illegal substances have been found as yet.
