Sicilian charged with drug trafficking after cannabis and cocaine finds
16-year-old Romanian youth handed €500 fine after admitting to be in possession of cannabis with the intent to sell
Davide Sapienza, a 34-year-old Sicilian car dealer residing in Swieqi, has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to drug trafficking, a day after police discovered around three kilograms of cannabis resin and 30 grams of cocaine in two of his vehicles.
Following intense investigations, yesterday, officers from the Drug Squad raided Sapienza's garage and found the drugs inside a Ferrari and a Citroen. Both vehicles and an amount of cash were seized during the operation.
The drug raid also saw the arrest of a 16-year-old Romanian youth who was found to be in possession of 50 grams of cannabis grass.
He was charged with possession and trafficking of cannabis.
Giving evidence behind closed doors, the youth, also a Sliema resident, admitted to his involvement and pleaded guilty to the possession of cannabis with the intent to sell.
Taking into account the youth's age and his guilty plea, Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit fined the youth €500.
Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted while legal aid lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the Romanian youth.
Dr Giannella De Marco and Dr Gianluca Caruana Curran appeared for Davide Sapienza.
