27-year-old man in critical condition after taking unknown substance

A 27-year-old man from Tarxien is in critical condition after consuming an unknown substance during the early hours of this morning.

The police said the man was slightly injured when he crashed in Renault Megane in a garage in Valley Road, Msida at around 1.15am.

The 27-year-old man was hospitalised with slight injuries but his condition worsened due to the substances he consumed.

Meanwhile, police foiled a fight in Sliema during the early hours of this morning.

No major traffic incidents were reported.

Despite the cold weather, thousands of revellers descended to Paceville and Valletta to celebrate the New Year. Patrols were carried out around Valletta while the traffic branch, the ALE and the Dogs Section, carried out spot checks.

One driver tested positive for a breathalyser test due to alcohol consumption while several other drivers were stopped and checked but no other irregularities were reported.
