Second Enemalta employee admits involvement in smart meter tampering
Accused admits to tampering with 10 smart meters
Carmel Vella, a second former Enemalta official admitted in court to being involved in the smart meters tampering scandal. Vella, 55 of Zejtun, admitted to bribery and defrauding Enemalta of some €3,000. He was remanded in custody pending sentencing on 13 March.
Vella admitted that in the months and years before February of this year he tampered with some 10 smart metres.
Vella is the second Enemalta Corporation employee to admit involvement. Paul Pantalleresco, 55 from Mqabba on 14 February, was jailed for two years after he admitted to bribery and tampering with 250 smart meters.
Ten Enemalta employees have been suspended while investigations into the scam continue.
