Updated | Drug raids lead to 43 arrests over drug possession

Police have arrested a total of 25 persons over the weekend after they were found to be in possession of drugs in Cirkewwa and Gozo.

Yesterday, a series of roadblocks in Gozo resulted in the arrest of two youths found to be in possession of cannabis.

On Friday, five persons residing in Birkirkara, Zabbar, Ghaxaq and Naxxar were arrested after being found in possession of ecstacy, cannabis grass and resin.

Police sources have also confirmed that a 19-year-old Gozitan was carrying four packets of cannabis and drug related objects. He was arrested and taken to the Rabat police station.

In addition, during several raids and searches conducted last night, police officials arrested a total of 16 persons after they were found to be in possession of ecstasy, cocaine and cannabis.

Four people aged between 18 and 32 years old were also arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after being found in possession of cocaine and ecstacy.

A further 17 people were arrested over drug possession of cocaine, cannabis and ecstacy. Another person was arrested over drug trafficking charges, police said.

The arrested are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
