The Maltese and Dutch governments have today reached an agreement whereby technical experts from the Justice sectors of the two countries will form a working group with the aim of enhancing cooperation on the exchange of effective measures for better case management within the Law Courts.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Owen Bonnici and the Dutch Minister for Security and Justice Fred Teevan, in a press conference this morning, said that this would prove as another step for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation which already existed between Malta and the Netherlands.

Bonnici explained that The Netherlands had successfully implemented a detailed and professional system of case management based on benchmarking, and the creation of different categories of cases with each category having a different weighting system.

He said that The Netherlands are considered to be a "success story" in this sector, and he said that Malta was expected to "benefit greatly" from the training and exchange of experience.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Justice said that the Directorate of the Maltese Law Courts and the Chamber of Advocates have agreed to nominate a representative to appear on the technical group. The idea was said to be well-received amongst the Judiciary.
