Two brothers placed under probation
Magistrate reprimands two brothers over their violent family arguments and placed both of them under a probation order
Dean Camilleri, 28, and his 21-year-old brother Liam, both residing in Pembrok,e were placed under a probation order after assaulting each other at their family residence.
Prosecuting inspector Daryl Borg told the court how an argument between the two brothers ended with both siblings being recovered at Mater Dei suffering from slight injuries. During investigations Dean alleged his brother had pulled a pointed piece of metal on him. However Liam argued that he defended himself after Dean hit him with a hard object. A bullet was found in Liam's possession.
Both were charged with causing each other slight injuries, however Liam was also accused of keeping unlicensed ammunition. Appearing in court, the two sibling said they forgive each other and neither of them has further interest in the case.
Magistrate Doreen Clarke noted the accused's guilty plea and found both brothers guilty. The younger brother was fined €770 and placed under a two-year probation. His elder brother Dean was placed under a probation order for a year. "Issues are not sorted through violence, especially within a family. Problems are discussed between family members," the court said.
Lawyer Veronique Dalli appeared for the two brothers.
