Husband punches wife after she accidentally hit the dog
Man is remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges of domestic violence.
Alston Gambin, 31 of Xghajra, was remanded in custody after allegedly punching his wife in the face, fracturing her nose.
The alleged attack happened last week when the wife, Sue Ellen, walked into the garage to talk to her husband. When the wife opened the garage door, she accidentally hit the dog.
Gambin allegedly reacted by punching his wife in the face. She sought medical treatment and was released from hospital on Saturday.
Gambin’s defence lawyer however argued it was Sue Allen who assaulted her husband, proven “by the scratches he has on his face”. The lawyer went to ask the court to grant bail to the accused, adding that the wife was under psychiatric help.
Objecting to the request, prosecuting officer Robert Said Sarreo said this was not the first time Gambin had been charged with domestic violence. The wife, he said, is terrified of returning to their matrimonial house.
