Legal documents can be filed in any court registry
Party financing bill to be presented in the summer
Justice minister Owen Bonnici said he has received the first draft for new constitutional amendments necessary in an upcoming justice reform.
The draft laws, carried out by Prof. Kevin Aquilina, the dean of the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta, will be passed on to other stakeholders for consultation, including the Justice Reform Implementation Committee (JURIC).
Bonnici said discussions with the Opposition already took place.
Addressing the media shortly after taking his oath as Minister of Justice, Owen Bonnici announced that in a bid to cut red tape inside the law courts, legal documents can now be filed in any court registry in Malta and Gozo.
"It's a minor measure but you'll be surprised when you see the results achieved with an accumulation of such minor measures. Gozitans won't need to come to Malta merely to file these documents, and vice-versa," Bonnici said.
He underlined how this government was encouraging the use of information technology for the benefit of the administration of justice.
Bonnici also said that the upcoming bill on party financing rules will be presented in the summer.
