Enemalta employees granted bail
Two former Enemalta employees who pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery, are granted bail after termination of amnesty period for account holders
50-year old Anthony Mifsud, of Rabat, and Manoel Micallef, 35 of Mtarfa, both charged in connection with the Enemalta smart meter scandal, were yesterday granted bail by Magistrate Carol Peralta.
Earlier this week, co-accused Martin Cilia la Corte, of Marsaskala, was granted bail after the prosecution explained that the amnesty period for account holders to come forward was over. At the same sitting, both Mifsud and Micallef filed a new request for bail and the Attorney General was given till yesterday to reply.
In an ‘in camera’ judgement, Magistrate Carol Peralta granted Mifsud and Micallef bail on deposit of €1,500 and personal guarantee of €8,500.
In previous sittings, Richard Gauci, 47 of Rabat, Carmel Vella, 55 of Zejtun and Paul Pantalleresco, 55, Mqabba, all former Enemalta employees, admitted to the charges and were jailed for two years and handed a general perpetual interdiction.
