Thief jailed for two years
Young thief has bail revoked, is imprisoned for two years after he admits to a series of thefts in the past two months
Paul Gauci Borda, 21, of Gzira, had his bail revoked and was subsequently imprisoned for two years after admitting to eight counts of theft.
On 6 February, the youth stole keychains and purses from Coccinella in Sliema, while during the month of March he stole perfumes from Microcopy in Msida and Me To You in Ta’ Xbiex, blades and gel from K-Mart Supermarket in Gzira and from Medica in B’Kara, cigarettes from Tal-Qroqq Confectionary in Gzira, batteries from Bellas in Tarxien, and a digital camera and laptop from a room at the Sliema Hotel. Borda was also charged with breaching bail and relapsing.
Defence lawyer Michael Micallef Stafrace informed the court that Borda had a drug abuse problem but was requesting to start a rehabilitation programme.
Noting the accused’s guilty plea, Magistrate Antonio Vella revoked the youth’s bail and imprisoned him for two years. However the court recommended that he is kept at the Forensic Unit.
Inspectors Elton Taliana and Jonathan Ramsley prosecuted.
