Youth jailed for possession of ecstasy pills
Zabbar youth jailed for six months and fined €800 after being found guilty of being in possession of 17 ecstasy pills, which were not for his personal use.
Kyle Gili, 24, of Zabbar, was imprisoned for six months and fined €800 after being found guilty of being in possession of the drug ecstasy in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use.
During a party at the Eden Ice Arena on 31 December 2007, officers from the Drug Squad stopped and searched the accused who was entering the party.
11 pills marked D&G were found in a plastic container along with a plastic bag containing six other pills. Court expert Godwin Sammut confirmed the pills to be ecstasy drug.
The accused released a statement claiming he had purchased pills at a boat party but the pills found in his possession were not all his.Gili said he had agreed with a friend to carry the pills through the entrance of the party and hand them back to him inside.
The defence argued that the youth had no intention to traffic drugs but was simply in possession of the pills for a short time.
Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras noted that the accused had admitted to his action and had a clean police record up to October last year. Gili was imprisoned for six months and fined €800. He was also ordered to pay €169 in court fees.
