Man arraigned after victims recognise him in court

Three victims of a brawl, recognise one of their aggressors in court, while he was waiting to attend the same sitting in which his friend is charged with assaulting the three Maltese youths

Serbian national, Boris Dodsek, was placed under arrest and charged with injuring three Maltese youths, when the victims recognised him as one of their aggressors while waiting for a separate court sitting.

As people gathered in the court’s corridors waiting for the start of the St Julian’s District sitting, Clayton Grech, Mario Farrugia and Ingrid Galea, waited to take the witness stand in the compilation of evidence against Serbian national Alexander Mirancovic.

The man is charged with grievously injuring Grech and causing slight injuries to Farrugia and Galea during a brawl in Paceville on the 2 May.

Mirancovic arrived at court in the company of co-national 23-year old Boris Dodsek.

As the victims waited, they recognised Dodsek as one of the people who had assaulted them. The prosecuting officer was informed and the Serbian youth was put under arrest.

Arraigned in front of Magistrate Audrey Demicoli, Dodsek, pleaded not guilty to grievously injuring Grech and causing slight injuries to Farrugia and Galea, provocation of an affray and breaching public peace.

Defence lawyer Arthur Azzopardi requested bail. The lawyer also requested the court not to impose a curfew as it would restrict the chances the accused has of finding work, if he is issued with a work permit.

Magistrate Demicoli granted bail to the accused against a personal guarantee of 5,000. While no curfew was imposed, Boris Dodsek was ordered to sign the bail book at the Qawra Police Station every day.

Inspetor Trevor Micallef prosecuted.
