Updated | School janitor gropes colleague

A 67-year old from Fgura was granted bail after pleading not guilty to defiling a 16-year old girl at his place of work.

Last Monday, was at the MCAST Institute in Paola, were the accused works as a janitor. The victim alleged that while walking in the corridors, the handyman groped her breast. The girl filed a police report.

Police inspector Hubert Cini charged the 67-year old with violent indecent assault, defilement of minor and offending public morals.

Magistrate Anthony Vella granted bail to the accused against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for the accused.

In a statement, MCAST clarified that the persons involved in this alleged sexual abuse incident were neither a student nor a member of staff.
 
The incident involved two members of staff of the cleaning contractor contracted by MCAST.

While noting that the contractor has been warned that such incidents are completely unacceptable, the college added that the contractor has taken appropriate action following this incident.
