Austrian dies while diving in Gozo

A 64-year-old Austrian national has been reported dead, while diving at Reqqa Point, in Gozo.

MaltaToday is as yet unable to establish the exact cause of death.

The police said that the diver "found himself in difficulty whilst swimming at Reqqa Point, Zebbug. "The Austrian, was brought ashore and was certified dead on the spot. Police investigations are ongoing," the police said.

In June 2013, a diver - aged 66 of Zebbug - had found himself in distress at Reqqa Point when he was overcome by a wave which then dragged him into a cave, where he struck his head and his goggles and flippers got pulled off.
