Zejtun local council ordered to pay €81,376
Court orders Zejtun council to pay €81,376 for works carried out 16 years earlier by the Works Department
The First Hall of the Civil Court today ordered the Zejtun Local Council to pay €81,376 to the Works Department for works carried out in 1998.
On 24 June 2005, the Works Department demanded payment however the Local Council argued that the works had been carried seven years earlier.
Moreover the works were part of a project by the central government and the local council had to redo the work at a later stage.
The defendant alleged that the claim of the Works Department was time barred as more than two years had lapsed.
Madam Justice Anna Felice took over the case at the end of May 2012.
The Court ruled that the Zejtun local council never substantiated its arguments, and ordered the council to pay the sum of €81,376 to the Works Department.
