Repeat offender denies stealing from court

39-year-old man with lengthy criminal record granted bail after pleading not guilty to stealing two clocks from court, and gas cylinder.

A 39-year-old unemployed man was this morning granted bail after pleading not guilty to stealing two clocks from the law courts and a gas cylinder.

The court heard how on 19 May, two magistrates reported missing clocks from inside their respective halls. CCTV cameras later spotted the accused, Charles Sciberras, of St Lucia, entering the halls.

Sciberras was also charged of stealing a gas cylinder from Johnsons Store in Msida on July 1.

In handing down the judgment, Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona slammed the accused for his repeated offences, claiming that he “never learns and that he could write a book about his court appearances,”

Prosecuting inspector Jason Francis Sultana requested that the court revokes bail imposed by a previous court.

The accused denied the charges. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000, and ordered that the accused, who has a drug problem, be given the necessary help.

Inspector Jason Francis Sultana prosecuted.
