Man admits to stealing equipment from construction sites

Man handed suspended sentence after pleading guilty to causing €13,000 in damage to flats under construction

A 47-year-old man from Mosta was this morning handed an 18-month imprisonment term suspended for three years and placed under the supervision of a probation officer for three years after admitting to stealing several objects from a 27 apartments in Marsascala.

The accused, Paul Zammit, admitted that in previous weeks, he, alongside another man, stole €7,000 in electricity cables, a compressor, a welding set, and other construction tools from an apartment block under construction. 

The total damage caused is valued at around €13,000.

Zammit, a tile layer, also admitted to breaching conditions imposed by Magistrate Saviour Demicoli in 2012 and of damaging the apartments under construction.

The court sentenced the man to 18-months imprisonment, suspended for three years, and placed him under the supervision of a probation officer. He was also ordered to pay €7,000 in damages, half the damages suffered by the victim.

The other man will face separate court proceedings.
