Woman who hid 25 ecstasy pills in bra jailed
40-year-old mother of three jailed over aggravated possession of ecstasy
A 40-year-old reformed drug user who in 2005 was found to be in possession of 25 ecstasy pills stashed in her bra has been sentenced to nine months in jail and handed a €700 fine.
Lorraine Grima, a mother of three, was found guilty of aggravated possession of ecstasy pills and of committing the offence during the operative period of a suspended jail term.
The case dates back to 30 April 2005, when during a roadblock search conducted by members of the Armed Forces of Malta, the accused was spotted fumbling with her bra.
After stopping the accused, AFM officials uncovered the drugs. Police then conducted a search at the accused’s home where further traces of ecstasy were found
Testifying in court on February 2014 – nearly nine years after the drug find – Grima told the court that had stashed the pills in her bra out of fear that her three children would find them at home.
While acknowledging that the drug find was “not small”, the accused told the court that she had bought so many drugs because they were “at a good price”, and claimed that whenever she went to party with friends, the pills would keep her going for 24 hours.
In her decree, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras noted that the accused had reformed and that she had found a job, but nevertheless handed the accused a nine-month imprisonment term.
Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
