Five hospitalised following Mellieha traffic accident

The Santa Marija holiday proved to be a busy day for the police and paramedics as three persons suffered grevious injuries in two seperate accidents.

A 19-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were certified to be suffering from grievous injuries following a traffic accident near L-Ahrax tal-Mellieha at around 7pm on Friday.

In total five persons were hospitalised after two vehicles collided in Mellieha. A Ssang Yong driven by a 36-year-old man residing in Zebbug and a Peugeot 106 driven by a 19-year-old teenager residing in Fgura.

Three of the injured were in the Peugeot; an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old both residing in Naxxar and a 17-year-old residing in Saint Paul’s Bay while in the Ssang Yong there were two passengers, a 33-year-old male residing in Msida and a 37-year-old male residing in Zabbar.

An ambulance was summoned on site and took the driver and all the passengers of the Peugeot 106 and also the 33 year-old male of Msida to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical treatment.

The police said that 19-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were certified to be suffering from grievous injuries while the 17-year-old suffered from slight injuries and the 15-year-old suffered no injuries.

Man injured in Zebbug fall

A 55-year-old man from Zebbug suffered grievous injuries after a fall at Triq Gharram, Zebbug.

The police statement said the man fell from a height of about one-and-a-half storeys.

Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team were on site to assist the victim. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital and was later certified to be suffering from injuries of grievous nature.
