Nigerian remanded in custody over 1.3kg heroin drug find
35-year-old Nigerian man charged with possession of 1.3 kilograms of heroin.
A 35-year-old Nigerian man has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to being in possession and to consipiring to traffic 1.3 kilograms of heroin.
The court heard how on Wednesday at around 2pm in Leli Falzon Street, Naxxar, the accused, Kayoda Kola Ogunleye, was arrested by police after they had received a tip off that he was going to deliver drugs.
A frisk search on the man yielded a bag containing 750 grams of heroin.
The police, whom sources said acted on a tip-off, then searched the accused’s home in Naxxar.
A search yielded 600 grams of heroin, bringing the total amount to 1.3 kilograms of heroin.
The accused pleaded not guilty to conspiring to traffic heroin, to being in possession of heroin that denoted that it was not for his personal use, and to committing the crime within 100 meters of a place frequented by minors.
No request for bail was made and consequently, the court remanded the accused in custody.
