16-year-old involved in drug trafficking ring

A 16-year-old boy from Haz-Zabbar was among a group of five persons arrested by the Police in connection with an investigation into drug trafficking.

According to the Police’s communications office, the arrest follows weeks of investigation and observation into suspected trafficking of cannabis.

The drug bust which took place on Sunday afternoon led to the immediate arrest of two individuals, found in possession of 8.5kg of cannabis. The 16-year-old was arrested together with a 32-year-old man from Slovenia, residing in Sliema. The duo were arrested after emerging from a garage in Haz-Zabbar.

The operation led to the arrest of two Italians – a man and a woman of Catania aged 55 and 45 respectively – and a 56-year-old women from Slovenia and residing in Zurrieq.

The five are being held under arrest. Police investigations and a magisterial inquiry are underway.
