Bormla man pleads not guilty to fuel theft
The accused was also charged with causing voluntary damage, breaching a probation order, breaching bail conditions, and handling stolen goods.
A 29-year-old Bormla resident was remanded in custody today after he pleaded not guilty to charges of fuel theft.
Ryan Camenzuli appeared before Magistrate Carol Peralta accused of having stolen fuel from several container trucks parked in Ta' Qali at around 11:20 pm last night.
The man was arrested by a Rapid Intervention Unit patrol, who became suspicious when they spotted him loitering around several trucks parked in Ta' Qali. A search of the suspect's van yielded several plastic containers. Tools, including a pump, were also found nearby.
He was also charged with causing voluntary damage to the trucks, breaching a probation order, breaching bail conditions, and handling stolen goods.
Lawyer Leslie Cuschieri told the court that Camenzuli, who also has a two-year suspended sentence for another offence to contend with if found guilty, was trying to change his ways.
Camenzuli did not request bail and was remanded in custody.
Inspector Robert Vella prosecuted.
