Updated | Elderly Gozitan woman dies after slipping in village square

A 78-year-old woman from Zebbug, Gozo died after falling in Pjazza Assunta, the village square of Zebbug. The police said that the woman had probably slipped, prossibly while on her way to an early-morning Mass.

At around 6:40 am, police found the woman lying face-down in the village square. As they tried to help her out, they realized that she had suffered injuries and called an ambulance to the location. The woman was taken to the Gozo General Hospital where she was later certified dead. 

A magisterial inquiry has been launched and police investigations into the exact cause of her death are ongoing.
