Hero policeman wins officer of the year award
Police District 4 wins shield for registering highest drop in criminality rate.
A police officer who jumped into the sea in Ta’ Xbiex on March 15 in a bid to save a Pole caught in a car under water has won the officer of the year.
PC840 Roderick Psaila won the award for his efforts in saving 20-year-old driver Daniel Sobczak after the Pole lost control of his car before plunging into the sea in Ta' Xbiex.
Another five officers: PC1585 James Weatherill, PC103 Ton Joe Farrugia, PC79 Antoine Grixti, PC173 Jonathan Agius and PC435 David d’Amato were awarded a certificate of merit during a ceremony at the police headquarters this morning.
The police’s district four, which is made of Cospicua, Senglea, Vittoriosa, Kalkara, Zabbar, Xghajra, and Marsaskala, won the shield for registering the highest drop in criminality rate.
The awards ceremony was also attended by home affairs minister Carmelo Abela, Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia, and police commissioner Michael Cassar, among other police officials.
