Driver arrested after fleeing scene of traffic accident
Police and paramedics assists injured motorists, passengers during three separate traffic incidents
It was a busy morning for paramedics and police officers who this morning were called to assist injured passengers and motorists in three separate traffic incidents.
The incidents took place between 5.15am and 8.55am and a total of four persons were hospitalised.
In the first traffic incident, at 5.15am, the police ended up arresting the driver after he fled the scene of the incident. According to the police’s communication office, the 25-year-old driver was driving a Toyota Aygo when he overturned and crashed into a wall, in Triq is-Salini limits of Naxxar.
Two Finnish passengers, both women, were hospitalised while the driver and a third passenger fled the scene. Only one of the women suffered injuries. The driver is assisting the police in their investigations.
The second accident took place in Triq it-Tghabija, Rabat involving a head-on collision between a bus and an Isuzu. The bus, driven by a 33-year-old man of Zabbar, was carrying two passengers while the van, driven by a 25-year-old man of Birkirkara, was carrying a passenger.
The bus driver was hospitalised. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.
A third accident took place in Kalkara at around 8.55am between a Honda motorcycle and an Isuzu. The motorcycle was being driven by a 78-year-old man of Kalkara while the Isuzu was being driven by a 72-year-old man of Balzan. The motorcyclist was hospitalised.
