Syrian man charged with rape of a minor

Court orders that the suspect be remanded in custody pending the testimony of the victim.

A 26-year-old Syrian man has been remanded in custody after he appeared in court charged with the rape of a teenage girl, who is thought to be under the age of sixteen.

Police Inspector Joseph Busuttil presented Jumaa Mohammad under arrest and charged him with a number of offences including rape, violent indecent assault, corruption of minors and restraining the victim against her will for indecent acts. 

Although this was not specified in court, it is understood that the accused and the minor had an ongoing sexual relationship.

Mohammad was also charged with committing indecent acts in a public place and allowing the minor to drive his car without a license

He was also charged with allowing the minor to drive his car and offending public morals.

The Syrian pleaded not guilty to all charges.
