Bangladeshi man bailed on grievous bodily harm, affray charges

The man was chared with causing greivous bodily harm to a fellow tenant in his apartment block, after the other man punched him

A Bangladeshi restaurant worker has been released on bail this morning after he pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring a neighbour in a fight which yesterday resulted in a Libyan man being handed a conditional discharge and a further three Bangladeshi men being granted bail.

Inspector Carol Fabri charged the man, 22 year-old Kausa Fazlo, with causing grievous bodily harm to Wadea Al Maghrbi during an accidental affray, provoking the affray with the intent of harming Al Maghrbi, breaching the peace and carrying a knife in public without the necessary permit.

Al Maghrbi, who hails from Libya, is alleged to have punched Fazlo during an argument which took place in the common area of a block of flats in which they both live, late Tuesday night.

At one point during the argument, the Libyan is thought to have produced a penknife and in their efforts to disarm him, the Bangladeshi’s three co-workers caused the penknife to cut his hand.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri granted Fazlo bail against a deposit of €250 and a personal guarantee of €1000.

Lawyer Mario Spiteri represented Fazlo.
