A court has handed a treatment order to a man who pleaded guilty to assaulting and seriously injuring two men during a fight, after it heard how he struggled to manage his anger.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja had heard Inspector Elton Taliana accuse Romania-born Msida resident Richard Dean Monaco, 20, of causing serious injury to two Spanish men who were taking a stroll on the Sliema promenade.

Monaco had been arrested after a brawl between him, his friend and the men- Thomasz Okon and Barquilla Izquierdo Julio Alberto- took place after a verbal exchange, last September.

In Monaco's pre-sentencing report, probation officer Charisse Briffa recommended a treatment order be issued, to address the defendant's anger management problems.

The court placed Monaco under a three-year treatment order to address his anger management problem.

In addition to the treatment order, Monaco was placed under probation for three years and ordered to perform 100 hours of community work.
