Unattended luggage in Mdina prompts bomb scare

Bomb disposal experts brought in after luggage is left in Mdina square

An unattended piece of luggage left in the centre of Mdina prompted the summoning of the Armed Forces of Malta's bomb disposal unit.

Passers-by were cleared from the scene after the luggage was left in the square near the Mdina Cathedral. The case was reported at about 11am.

The AFM's explosives ordinance disposal (EOD) unit was called in to investigate.

Victory Day, 8th September, is a day of mourning for the AFM, which is the anniversary of the death of five soldiers and two police officers who died in the explosion of illegal fireworks being carried aboard a patrol boat to dump them at sea near Comino.
