Police arrest man in Floriana, firearm seized
The discovery was made at about 0720hrs, shortly after the Valletta District Police received an anonymous call
A fifty-one-year-old man was caught carrying a pistol in suspicious circumstances during a search at the former public transport bus terminus in Floriana.
The discovery was made at about 0720hrs, shortly after the Valletta District Police were informed by an anonymous caller that a man was selling tablets outside a particular kiosk in the former terminus.
The District Police rushed on site, where they identified and stopped the suspect, who lives in Sliema. A search of two bags he was holding immediately yielded a nine-millimetre pistol, twenty-five blank rounds and two casings.
A substantial amount of prescription medicine was also found. A court expert has now been appointed by the Duty Magistrate, who launched an inquiry into the case, to examine the tablets.
The suspect was arrested and detained for further investigation by the district police.
