77-year-old man dies after being hit by van in Burmarrad

A 77-year-old man died early this morning after he was hit by a van in Burmarrad.

The incident occurred at 4:30 am in Triq Burmarrad, Burmarrad, when a Ford Transit being driven in the direction of St Paul’s Bay hit the victim. The 77-year-old man was given initial medical assistance by paramedics, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The van’s driver, a 70-year-old man from Rabat, was conveyed to Mater Dei Hospital and treated for shock.

The road, which was closed until the investigation was concluded, is now open to traffic.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is conducting an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
