22-year-old Bulgarian man critically injured after being run over by car in Hamrun; policeman called to the scene slightly injured in separate incident

A 22-year-old Bulgarian man who lives in Marsaskala is in danger of dying after he was run over by a car, in National Road, Hamrun, a stone's throw away rom Portes des Bombes.

The incident occurred on Sunday at around 6:20am when the youth was hit by a Chevrolet Trax that was being driven towards Blata l-Bajda by a 62-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay. Preliminary investigations suggest the man was run over while crossing the road.

District police, RIU officials and emergency services were on scene. The youth was given first aid before being rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was later certified to be suffering from critical injuries and is danger of dying.

A magisterial inquiry is currently underway, while police investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a police constable who was called to the scene of the incident in Hamrun was slightly injured after crashing into a bus in St Anne Street, Floriana. The incident occurred shorlty after 6:20am when a police car driven by a police constable stationed at the Hamrun police station crashed into a bus.

The police constable was certified to be suffering from slight injuries while the bus driver escaped unharmed.
