Update 3 | Female motorcyclist dies in Naxxar traffic accident

A female motorcyclist has lost her life in a traffic accident earlier this morning, after colliding with a construction truck. 

26-year-old Johanna Boni, an avid traveller, is from Sicily but has been living in Malta for the past years. She worked with a local insurance brokers firm.

The Police's communications office said that forensic tests will be carried to confirm her identity.

The accident, which took place in Labour Avenue in Naxxar, marks the first road fatality of 2016.

The two vehicles were traveling in the same direction when for some reason the truck collided with the motorcycle – a Kawasaki, which lodged itslef beneath the truck’s front bumper – crushing the rider beneath the wheels.

The driver of the truck is a 52-year-old man from Mellieha.

A magisterial inquiry led by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera has been appointed.

‘A disgraceful death to such a wonderful person’

Boni’s boyfriend Daryl Cauchi later took to Facebook to pay an emotional tribute to the crash victim.

“You were and will always be the best thing that ever happened to me,” he wrote. “Never to be forgotten and never to be replaced. You sacrificed so much and supported me in everything I ever dreamt of doing.”

He urged people to “always cherish your loved ones as if it’s your last moment together” and not to “sacrifice too much to try and reach goals that are set far apart”.

“It’s a gamble that’s not worth the risk,” he wrote.  “Today at 7:45am, before she was off to work just like on every other day of the week, I had to experience receiving the last morning kiss from the one true person who showed me the feeling of love like none other.

“Up until a few hours ago, I had it all. I couldn’t wish for anything else. I was certain that I was sharing my life with my true soulmate, understanding each other in ever single way, working hard and setting goals to travel the world.

“I am now facing a terrible feeling that cannot be described through words. Such a disagraceful death to such a wonderful person. I am left only with memories of us sharing the greatest moments and adventures of my life.”
