A man from Gozo was taken in for questioning by the police investigating an explosion outside the residence of businessman Sandro Ciliberti, ic-Chilly, on Friday morning in Xaghra.

Investigators are following the trail that the Ciliberti may have been targeted over a beach concession awarded last year in Comino.

A small explosive device was placed outside the garage of a house where Ciliberti and his partner recently took up residence . Ciliberti, 45, also operates within the construction sector.

It is understood that he works mostly in Malta and that the residence in Gnien Xibla Street belonged to his grandmother.

His black Mercedes, with personalised number plates, was parked outside the residence when the device exploded. According to media reports, the device was placed outside the garage door on purpose, knowing that four large gas cylinders were stored inside. Luckily, the blast was not as powerful as intended to be.
