Drug addict admits to Inter Club robbery
Sean Micallef, 22, from Msida, was charged with stealing a projector, a television, alcohol and assorted merchandise from the football supporters club.
A court is to sentence a man who admitted to stealing from the Inter Pupi Zanetti Club in the coming days, after noting that he had a drug problem tat needed to be tackled.
Sean Micallef, 22, from Msida, appeared under arrest before Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech, this morning, charged with stealing a projector, a television, alcohol and assorted merchandise from the football supporters club.
The court was told that the accused was a relapser and that the crime was committed in breach of his bail conditions and whilst the man was also under a suspended sentence. The total value of the items stolen exceeded €2,000.
Inspector Fabian Fleri asked the court to allow a plea bargain to be struck, but the magistrate pointed out that this could only be requested through the Attorney General, or after a guilty plea.
A plea of guilty was duly filed on Micallef's behalf by his lawyer, Joseph Mizzi.
Micallef repeated the admission, even after Magistrate Frendo Dimech pointed out that Micallef had been charged with theft aggravated by value, during the operative period of a suspended sentence and asked the accused whether he would still be pleading guilty.
Inspector Fleri informed the court that the accused had a drug problem which needed to be addressed, a point with which the defence agreed.
The court will deliver its sentence next week on 26 January
