Eight injured in Birkirkara collision, motorist drives off

Five suffered grievous injuries in a traffic accident at 12:45am Thursday morning, leaving three others suffering from slight injuries.

The accident happened on Mannarino Road, Birkirkara.

The collision took place between a Ford Transit minibus and a Volkswagen Polo, that sent the minibus veering into the wall of a nearby showroom. The Polo driver, so far unidentified, drove off after the collision.

A number of ambulances were called on site to assist the 56-year-old minibus driver, of San Gwann, who was certified to have been grievously injured and his seven passengers – four of whom suffered grievous injuries and three others slight injuries.

Nobody is in danger of dying.

Duty magistrate Joseph Mifsud is investigating.
