Husband of murdered woman gives himself up
Police arrest Andrew Mangion in connection with brutal murder of his estranged wife
Andrew Mangion, wanted in connection with the murder of his wife Eleanor Mangion Walker, was arrested Tuesday evening after giving himself up following an intense search for him.
The police are treating Mangion Walker as a victim of domestic violence. Her estranged husband was arrested on Tuesday after a nationwide hunt was launched to locate him a few hours after the grim discovery.
The man is understood to have “sought help” to dispose of the body after he allegedly killed the mother of his nine-year-old daughter.
Informed sources told MaltaToday that the 40-year-old man is suspected of brutally killing Mangion Walker before requesting another person’s help to get rid of the body.
Mangion Walker eventually dumped the woman’s body in a warehouse in Triq il-Kummerc, Qormi. There appeared to be no sign of forced entry at the disused warehouse, and it was members of the Civil Protection Department who forced their way in.
The gruesome discovery of the woman's body in a pool of blood was made on Sunday night at around 9:L30pm; the police were acting on a tip-off.
Although investigations are still underway, it appears that Mangion Walker was already dead by the time her body was transported to Qormi. An autopsy confirmed that the 33-year-old mother died of head injuries due to blunt trauma.
Mangion and Mangion Walker got married in 2009 but were currently undergoing separation proceedings. The couple have a daughter who is now understood to be in the care of her grandmother.
Mangion Walker, a beautician from Swieqi, had just started going out with another man. On Facebook, Rikky Pace said he was heartbroken and “lost for words”.
