One dead and another two hospitalised following Kappara accident
A young girl lost her life in a traffic accident this morning while her brother and another passenger were taken to hospital, the former unharmed and the latter having sustained grievous injuries
An accident at 5:00am in Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street in Kappara took the life of 17-year-old Tara Licari.
Preliminary police investigations of the scene of the accident showed her brother was driving his Toyota Vitz towards Sliema from St Julian’s, when the 23-year-old driver lost control and collided, most probably first with a wall, then subsequently with another car.
A Danish 18-year-old passenger was grievously injured during the accident. A medical team was called for assistance and the Danish man and the driver were taken to Mater Dei hospital for treatment, despite the driver being unharmed.
Licari was pronounced dead on the scene due to her injuries.
Duty magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech was informed of the case and she appointed several experts to help assist in the investigation.
In the meantime, carriageways leading from St Julian’s to Sliema have been closed to traffic and will remain so for some time.
Police investigations are still on-going.
Several people have taken to the internet to express their sadness at the news of Tara's passing. Many have offered their condolences to her family, while others call for more road safety. Others went as far as to speculate whether alcohol was involved in the accident and called for justice to be sought.
