A father was given a six-year jail term this morning after being found guilty of defiling his 10-year-old daughter.
The man had been accused of, defiling his daughter between January and February and of having indecent material in his possession. In March he had admitted to the accusations, and a month later he confirmed the admission.
Before giving judgment, the court ordered a pre-sentencing report from psychiatrist Dr Joe Cassar. He concluded that the man suffers from chronic anxiety in the form of a panic disorder, which can be controlled by medicine and psychiatric attention.
During sentencing, the court considered the early guilty plea.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli presided over the case.
Inspector John Spiteri led the prosecution.
