33-year-old Somali man remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to being in possession of knife and breaching suspended sentence
A Somali man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with carrying a knife in Valletta.
The accused, Jama Ahmed Alli, 33, resident in Ghaxaq, was arraigned under arrest charged with being in possession of a knife at the Fontana Bar in Valletta on Saturday morning, and of committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna, requested that the man be remanded in custody, arguing that a witness had claimed that the knife was meant for him.
The court, presided by Magistrate Doreen Clarke, upheld the prosecution’s request and remanded the man in custody.
