Tarxien woman admits to complicity in violent robbery
A woman received a suspended sentence after she admitted to having committed a robbery together with a man whose name she insisted she didn't know
A 29-year-old woman from Tarxien has been handed a suspended sentence for robbing and injuring a young man, together with a male accomplice.
Inspector Joseph Mercieca had charged Gianella Agius with having grievously injured the victim, holding him against his will and stealing cash and his mobile phone on 6 August 2016 at around 3:00am in Paola.
During her arraignment, Agius had admitted to having committed the robbery together with a man whose name she insisted she didn't know. She told the court that the man had kept the stolen items.
Magistrate Anthony Vella ruled that the woman should address her "considerable" drug problem, as he placed her under a probation order, in addition to a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for four years.
A 31-year-old Libyan man, Rawad Briga Abdelsalam had previously been jailed for 18 months by magistrate Joseph Mifsud for his part in this crime. He had also pleaded guilty to grievously injuring the victim.
Abdelsalam is also the man accused of last August's attempted murder of a 25-year-old girl in St Julian's, in a street robbery.
