83-year-old customer sues BOV after tripping on carpet
An elderly woman has sued Bank of Valletta for damages after tripping over a carpet at the Naxxar branch
Most visits to the bank are costly events, but few would expect it to end up with them on an operating table. That, however, is precisely what 83-year-old Catherine Seager is alleging happened to her last July.
In a judicial protest filed this morning against Bank of Valletta, Seager is demanding damages after she tripped in a carpet and fell at the bank's Naxxar branch. Seager claims to have fractured her lower right leg, which needed an operation under general anaesthetic to fix. The plaintiff was struck by further bad luck in hospital, contracting herpes.
The woman alleged that she had lost her previous independent, active lifestyle as a result of the accident and now constantly depended on her son's help. Her son had missed out on job opportunities as a result, she said.
She had written to the bank in August, November and December last year but says she had not received a reply, much less an offer to pay for the damages or compensate her for the incident which took place on its property. Seager is claiming that the bank had subsequently also “resisted” her request for a copy of the CCTV footage of the incident.
Lawyer Malcolm Mifsud signed the protest.
