24-year-old man from Birzebbugia, Rhys Celeste, dies after Mosta traffic accident in second traffic fatality of the year
Rhys Celeste, 24 of Birzebbuga, died this afternoon after crashing his quadbike into a bus in Mosta, police said.
The incident occurred at around 5:15pm in Vjal Millbrae when the man was riding his quadbike towards Burmarrad. The man lost control of the vehicle and veered on to an oncoming bus driven in the opposite direction.
The bus was being driven by a 28-year-old man from Marsa.
An ambulance was conveyed to the scene of the incident but the man was certified dead at the scene.
The man was part of a group of seven quadbike drivers. Two of the drivers were treated for shock, police said.
Police investigations are ongoing while a magisterial inquiry has been launched.
This is the second fatal quad bike incident in less than two months. In December, 34-year-old Reuben Azzopardi, an international Maltese kickboxer and a father of three-year-old girl, lost his life after falling with his quad bike over a cliff in an area of Xghajra known as Golf tat-Tafal.
Days later, on January 2, 26-year-old motorcyclist Matthew Azzopardi died in Mosta after crashing his motorcycle into an Isuzu pick-up.
