Boat sinks in Mellieha, all passengers landed safely
All passengers aboard a boat that sank in Mellieha were delivered to land safely after being rescued by another leisure boat
Members of the Armed Forces of Malta rescued a number of persons from the water in l-Ahrax tal-Mellieha after the boat they were on sank on Friday afternoon.
At around 3pm, police were informed of flares fired from a boat at sea off the coast of Mellieha.
AFM vessels raced to the spot where they discovered the boat was already half submerged. The passengers who jumped off the boat where rescued by another leisure boat that responded to the distress call. They were later delivered to land safely.
Police said they had not yet ascertained the total number of passengers on board the boat but they confirmed that no one had been trapped in the boat, which sank completely some time later.
