Third vehicle catches fire in Qormi this year

A minivan caught fire in the early hours of this morning in Qormi – the third of such cases in the city this year.

It was about 3:00am this morning when a Toyota Fun Cargo caught fire in Misrah il-Kittieb, damaging also the façade of two buildings.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Members of the Civil Protection Department dispatched to the scene in order to put out the flames.

Police have launched an investigation into the case.

Earlier this month, a Ford Ka parked on Triq San Rafel bore extensive damages when it caught fire at around 2:00am. The flames had also damaged two other nearby cars.

Similarly, in January, a Smart was completely destroyed in a suspected arson that damaged nearby cars as well as the façade of a building and a garage. That incident occurred at 2:30am on Triq San Edwardu.

Other such incidents have also taken place recently in other locations. On 3 April, three cars caught fire in two separate incidents in Birkirkara and Triq it-Telgha tax-Xemxija. Four days prior, a pickup up truck was heavily damaged in a fire that also damaged a nearby building.
